Student Testimonial
Online Volunteer Management Certificate Program

What did you gain professionally from this program?
The training offered me the time and focus on purpose, desired outcomes and the best practices of volunteer management, training, program evaluation and marketing.  It offered a unique lens to review what we do in my office and how we might improve our programming and systems for efficiency and a better volunteer experience.

What did you gain personally from the program?
In addition to insight, I gained a sense of pride in the work that I do.  At times, with a small office it’s easy to get lost in the list of to do, but speaking to another professional, I got the feeling that we accomplish quite a bit in a small space..

What was your favorite class and why?
Recruitment, Training and Retention.  Recruitment is one of our main initiatives in the association this year and this class offered a great deal of structure to pass along to our volunteer board.

If a friend or colleague asked you about taking this program, what would you tell them?
I think it’s perfect for anyone in a leadership role in a nonprofit.

Online Volunteer Management Certificate Program

What did you gain professionally from this program?
The biggest gain for me is a confidence boost. Although we have a practice profile that we follow, a lot of the intricacies of our day to day are left to our discretion so each FSC programs have a unique feel to the geographic and socio-economic group we service. So we have a more informal volunteer management/recruitment operation. This training has empowered me to implement some more formal techniques and still maintain the kitschy, homey feel we are required to maintain.

What did you gain personally from the program?
I am personally involved with 2 non-profits in a leadership role and organize a large event for one. I gained a lot of insight about asking the corporate world around me for volunteers and financial support. I have more leeway in these organizations (especially the one for which I wrote the bylaws) and realized that we are doing a lot of things right.

What was your favorite class and why?
Volunteer Program Management. It validated my day to day professional life and gave me valuable insight to the importance of developing solid mission and vision statements.

If a friend or colleague asked you about taking this program, what would you tell them?
I would highly recommend it. The VP of my branch asked how it was going and my reply was that so often we take these Professional Development classes and they aren’t worth the free muffin you get for attending.. .this training was a 180 from that and worth every minute and dollar spent on it.

What else would you like to share and what suggestions do you have?
I found the training very useful with a lot of great techniques for improving how we manage our volunteer operation. I really have no suggestions.
